A Conversation With Millennials

****Welcome address to a new Millennials batch entering in corporate life – a brief conversation****

Enron, Woolworths, Blockbuster, Arthur Anderson, AOL, Pets.com, EF Hutton, Compaq, and many others – What’s common across them. They don’t exist anymore. On the other side, there are organizations which never existed before, are thriving today – I call them post Google era such as Google, Amazon, Airbnb, Uber, Netflix, etc.

During mid Eighteenth century, Charles Darwin presented the theory of natural selection, which was letter termed as “Survival of fittest” by Herbert Spencer. Since then it has been applied in many other contexts too – economics, solar systems, corporates, etc., though meant for natural selection (evolution) of origin of species initially. Organizations are continuously evolving itself to remain valid in the current fast changing environment and so do equally applicable to the employees too, especially when tech disruption is at its peak.

What’s the recipe to be the fittest to survive? The connected-fantastic-four: Mindfulness, Performance, Behaviour, and your well-being.

Mindfulness is about being present and use of all senses to be aware of the changing environment, future skills, gaps, available resources, etc.. The awareness gathered from being mindful will enable you to navigate through the situation and mobilize resources to deliver the top-notch performance. However, while achieving the result (what) is the measurement of the individual performance, it is must ensure to deliver it in the right way (behavior). Be open to new ideas, people, culture, technology, and let go. Be reliable and connect with like-minded people, your customers, colleagues, friends, and family members. And the last, but most important is to take care of your well-being. Bitcoin is not the new currency but your well-being. Do all possible things to take care of yourself to stay hungry, stay foolish.

In this connected but fast-changing world, if you practice this connected-fantastic-four, your survival will never be at question.
